Free or cheap Clean and clear this week at CVS and Walgreens

CVS and Walgreens both have deals on Clean and Clear products this week.

At Walgreens, all Clean and Clear are BOGO50% and you'll get a $10 RRs when you buy $30 worth of products.

At CVS, all Clean and Clear are $1 off regular prices and you'll get $5 ECBs when you buy $15 worth of products (limit 5).

There is a $2/1 any Clean and Clear printable, and right now the print limit is 10 per computer!

Here's a sample scenario for CVS (prices have already had $1 taken off):

$3.99 Blackhead Clearing Scrub
$3.99 Blackhead Clearing Scrub
$3.99 Blackhead Clearing Scrub
$3.99 Blackhead Clearing Scrub

$15.96 before coupons

-$2/10 CVS coupon
-$8 (4) $2/1 Clean and Clear printables

$5.96 after coupons, earns $5 ECBs!

Do you have any good scenarios? If so, leave a comment and share them with us!

Free Pistons hats, just pay shipping

The Palace of Auburn Hills (go Pistons!) is celebrating it's 20th anniversary by marking down all of the hats they sell at the Palace Locker Room Store.

When you use the coupon code HALF it is supposed to take 50% off of your order. There must be a glitch in the system, because it is taking 100% off of the price. I ordered 2 hats, and the coupon code brought my total to $0. You pay shipping, it seems to be a flat $8 for ground shipping regardless of order size.

$8 for two hats is an excellent deal, since Hubs loves the Pistons, and he really needs a couple of new hats!

Hosting a House Party!

Not long ago, I heard about a website called HouseParty.com. At that site, big corporations sponsor parties to promote a new product or service that is available to consumers. Anyone can apply to host one of these parties, and there are usually at least a few available to apply for on the site.

There is no selling at these parties. If you're selected to be a host, the company sends you a package of products and related goodies for you to demonstrate to your guests. The parties can center around food products, DVDs of new shows coming on a television network in the upsoming season, toys, cleaning products, etc. There are countless companies wanting to get the word out to the public about their products, and sponsoring House Parties is becoming a very popular way to do that.

Hosting a House Party is a great excuse to get some friends together and socialize and have fun while trying out new items and scoring some free stuff.

I have applied to host 2 House Parties in the past, a Hershey's Bliss house party (a chocolate party, need I say more??) and a Party for the second Season of Ice Road Truckers, a show on the DIscovery Channel that my husband really likes. I didn't get picked for either of these, so I was starting to think that I may not be in the demographic that they're looking for.

I got an email a month or so ago that they were accepting applications for a Fisher Price House party. And the host package was amazing, better than either of the other two that I had applied for before. I was sure I wouldn't get chosen, but I applied anyways. I wanted this one way more than the other two, so imagine my glee when I got an email yesterday congratulating me on being chosen!

I am super excited about this party. First, they're sending some awesome toys my way. The package includes:

* 1 Laugh & Learn™ Smart Bounce & Spin Pony™ (ages 12 mos. to 3 yrs., MSRP $79.95)
* 1 Laugh & Learn™ Fun with Friends™ Musical Table (ages 6 mos. to 3 yrs., MSRP $49.95)
* 1 Amazing Animals™ Spinnin’Around Musical Zoo (MSRP $49.99, not available in stores until 8/18/08)* 1 Go Baby Go Crawl & Cruise Musical Jungle™ (MSRP $65.29, not available in stores until 8/18/08)
* 10 Fisher-Price toys to share with your guests, including Poppity Pop™, Rock-A-Stack®, and Friendly Flip Phone™

* 10 Infant Product Guides
* 10 coupons for the Fisher-Price online store
* 10 Gift Bags

Isn't that cool?!?! My daughters are going to flip over these toys. I'm excited about the Musical Jungle, because it looks a lot like the Drop and Roll Dinosaur that my 2 year old, Zoe, LOVES. These toys are perfect for my two girls. As soon as the party is over, they're getting packed away to go under the tree on Christmas. What a blessing.

My friends are already excited about the party, too. I have quite a few friends with chilcren who are between 6-3 years old, so it should be a great time!

Earn money with Swagbucks

Search & Win

I can't believe I haven't posted about Swagbucks yet! You may have seen the button ad on the sidebar of my blog for a couple of months now and not known about the gem that is Swagbucks.com.

First, it's simple. You earn "Bucks" for something that you're probably already doing - searching the internet. With one click you can install the Swagbucks search bar on your toolbar in Firefox or IE, and when you do a search, it'll give you your results from Google or Ask.com.

By using Swagbucks for your searches, you can earn "Bucks" randomly. On the very first search I did, I earned 2 Bucks! In the first two days, I was up to 14 Bucks, just by doing my normal searches that I would have done anyways, with or without being paid.

You don't need a lot of points to claim a prize, either. With only 45 Bucks you can get an Amazon gift card, and with 50 Bucks you can get a giftcard for Starbucks. There are other prizes as well (DVDs, XBox games, an iPod shuffle, etc.), but gift cards are all I'm interested in.

In the past 2 months, I have earned a $50 Best Buy card (for Hubs for Christmas) and 5 $5 Amazon gift cards. And I consider that free money, since it was earned by doing nothing but searching the internet, which I would be doing anyways.

Another perk is that Swagbucks offers incentives for getting your friends to sign up. You earn every buck that your referrals earn, so if you have a blog (like me), put a referral link on there and promote it! It's a win-win for you and your readers, they get paid for their searches, and you get paid as well.

If you're new to Swagbucks and are wanting to sign up, please use my referral link here to do so. I'd really appreciate your help in earning more gift cards, Christmas is right around the corner and I'm starting early this year, and our finances are tight so I can use all the help I can get!

Potty Training with ease!

I have been trying in vain for a couple of months to interest my daughter, Zoe, who is 2 years and 4 months old, in using the potty. She just doesn't like it. She fusses more about sitting on the potty than she does about going into time out.

At least she used to.

I have found a solution that, at least for the last few weeks, has worked wonders to change her whole attitude about potty training.

I searched Amazon for a potty training sticker chart, thinking that the stickers might just be what she needs to interest her. What I found instead was something that takes the reward system a step further than just stickers. I purchased this Potty Training Chart for $9.95 (also available for boys here), based mostly on all of the rave reviews.

It's a laminated chart, and comes with a dry erase marker, 192 stickers, and a keepsake certificate.

My daughter earns stickers each time she sits on the potty, and the stickers make a path on the little road to the treasure chest. Once she reaches the treasure chest, she gets a pre-determined prize. We have a box of books that we got for free from Border's last week (as far as I know that coupon code is still working) and we're using the books as her rewards.

She is loving it. We set our own requirements to earn stickers - 1 for trying, 2 for going pee, and 3 for poop. She LOVES picking out the stickers, and watching me put them on the chart to see if she's at the treasure chest yet. If she starts to seem reluctant to sit on the potty, I produce the box of books for a few minutes to look at longingly, and that gets her motivated enough to want to earn stickers again.

After over a year of frustration when I was training my first daughter (who is now 10) to use the potty, it seems too good to be true that it could really be this simple. I wish I knew then what I know now!

Save money on your cable bill

First, let me set this up for you.

Last week, I called Comcast to ask them how much it would be to increase my Basic Digital cable package to the Preferred package. I'm embarrassed to say that I wanted to bump it up solely because I wanted to watch the new season of General Hospital Night Shift on Soapnet, and my basic package didn't include Soapnet.

Anyways, the CS rep said it would be $18 more a month. $18! I said no. Then I saw the previews of Night Shift and saw that Antonio Sabato Jr would be rejoining the cast, and I gave in and called back and added it. I know, I'm weak. And there's something wrong with me. I have an addiction to General Hospital.

When I called to upgrade my package, I asked the CS rep if there was any promotion or anything that would make it any cheaper, she checked for what seemed like forever and said that no, sadly there was not.

Ok, now fast forward to today. I was perusing SlickDeals, and came across this thread, talking about a promotion for pre-existing customers, available only online through talking to someone on the website's chat feature.

I didn't think it would work, but hey, I'll spend a few minutes in an online chat to at least try (while eating my lunch and feeding my four-month-old a bottle - beats talking to them on the phone!).

So I went to the online chat through this link. And below is my actual conversation, the only part I edited was my SSN and account number. I'm posting it to show you that it was really that easy.

Lavonne_(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:18:47 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

A friend of mine just changed her plan to a lower rate, I guess it's a new promotion, and she said it was available to pre-existing customers. I am hoping to get the same rate that she just switched to

Marco.19602(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:19:55 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

You mean you want an upgrade?

Lavonne_(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:21:11 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

no, I'd like the same package, but there is a promotion for pre-existing customers that would make the cost lower than what I am paying currently

Lavonne_(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:21:15 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

She was able to reduce her internet to $3o for 12 months, and her Digital Preferred service from $68 to $48 for 12 months as well, with a free DVR. Her bill will be $79 for 12 months.

Lavonne_(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:21:39 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

I would like to see if that rate is available to me as well

Marco.19602(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:22:03 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

Let me check.

Lavonne_(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:22:22 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

thank you

You're welcome.

Marco.19602(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:25:51 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

Thank you for waiting, Lavonne. Your internet is at $24 and I have lowered your cable to $48, finishing up with DVRs.

Lavonne_(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:27:48 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

you are awesome. Thank you. We were considering switching to the Dish because we're cutting down on our budget, but I like having the On Demand with Comcast. With the rate you lowered me to, we can stay with Comcast for another year. Thank you

Marco.19602(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:28:17 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

You're most welcome. I am almost done.

Marco.19602(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:29:38 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

can you tell me what my monthly bill will be now?

Marco.19602(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:30:45 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

It is $80.

Lavonne_(Tue Aug 05 2008 11:31:07 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

Not only did he take off the cost of one of my DVRs, but both of them. My cable package (including two DVRs, NOT including internet) was $107 before. Now it's $48! My internet was $27.95, now it's $24. My total bill last month was $143.90. Ugh, I know. So to drop down to $80 is awesome. I imagine with tax and surcharges and whatnot it'll be close to $100, but still, that's almost $50 less per month. Just by spending a few minutes chatting online.

I was almost doing cartwheels in my living room! Almost.

New CVS $2/$10 coupon!

Thanks to my new best friend Jessica (you know, the one who hooked me up with the Kodak DVD $5 off coupons) for letting me know that there's a new $2/$10 CVS coupon available to print online. Off of ANY purchase, not just CVS brand. And this one is good until Sept. 28! In case you didn't do the math, that's over 7 weeks of usage!!
I see lots of little ten-dollar orders in my future...

Here's how you can get yours:

Go to the Richmond Parents Monthly Family Magazine site, and click on the picture of the magazine. The entire magazine will open in PDF format, the coupon is on page 30.
I suggest saving a copy on your computer in case the site takes it down before the coupon expires (you never know!).

**If you're not getting all of your hair care products, teeth care products, soaps, diapers, and other toiletries and paper products for free or nearly free, then the above coupon and my post here can change your life. Seriously, check it out and email me if you have questions! :)

And if you came here looking for my CVS scenarios for the week, or my Heads Up Monday posts, they're coming! I've had a lot to do around the house today and have only had time to sit down at the computer for a few minutes. Hubs gets home at 5 and I should be able to take the time to work on them after we eat dinner. Check back this evening! :)

My CVS loot from this week

Ok, I ended up doing the candy deal after all. And it was nice to get the intuition razors for next to nothing after working them into a couple of scenarios.

Here's how I did:

Thanks to Jessica, a reader who emailed me and offered to send me 3 $5 off Kodak Picture DVD coupons, I was able to come out ahead this week, about $20! Jessica, the coupons did come on Saturday, so thank you, thank you, thank you again for thinking of me and being kind enough to send them!

Super Cheap DVDs with code at Blockbuster.com

Now through 9/1/08, when you use coupon code augappreciation, you'll get $10 off of your order of $10 or more at Blockbuster.com! The fine print (see below) says you can use the code once per account, not per person, so I used multiple accounts to do multiple orders (more Christmas gifts!).

Shipping is free for used DVDs, so that's all I bought. If you are a paid subscriber, you get 10% off of used DVDs and 5% off of new DVDs, but you don't need to be a paid subscriber to use the code.

Here's how to register for a free account without signing up for a free trial for their paid subscription membership:

Make sure you're signed out, add your movie/s to your cart, and click "checkout". It will give you the option to sign in or checkout without an account. Click "checkout" and it will prompt you to register (free, no subscription). Register, place your order with coupon code, and sign out. Repeat, with a different email address.

Also, I got an "unable to process order" a couple times when checking out. Just click submit again, it'll go through.

Here's what I bought (all used, so shipping is free):

-Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Win a Date With Todd Hamilton, total after coupon and tax; $0.83 (after 10% off, this one I did with a subscription)
